This 5 day Marrakech to Fes desert tour begins with a morning pickup from the airport or your hotel. We travel through the High Atlas mountains and across the Tizi N Tichka pass, stopping for photos of the scenic views. We visit the Telouet Kasbah before exploring Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a filming location for hits like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. We then arrive in Ouarzazate, known as the gate of the desert, for dinner and your hotel stay.
After breakfast, we explore Ouarzazate by visiting the Atlas film studios and the ancient Taourirt Kasbah. We continue east to visit the Amridil Kasbah, located in the lush Skoura palm groves. Our journey then leads through the Rose Valley, famous for its May rose festival and local products like rose water and perfumes. After passing through Boumalne Dades, we stop at the famous monkey fingers rock formations and a viewpoint over the valley. You will spend the night at a hotel in Dades.
Today we travel to the Todra Gorges, where the river has carved a massive canyon through the red mountains. You will have time to walk through the gorge and enjoy the landscape. After driving through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, we reach the Merzouga desert in the afternoon. You will ride camels across the golden dunes to catch a stunning sunset before heading to a luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional dinner and live music around the campfire under the starry sky.
Watching the desert sunrise is a highlight of the trip. After breakfast, return to Merzouga by camel to begin a day of exploration. We drive off road to visit old mines and meet local nomads living in traditional tents to share a cup of tea. We also visit Khamlia village to hear Gnaoua music and see a dance performance by people with sub Saharan heritage. After lunch, we visit a palm grove and the flamingos at Merzouga lake. The day ends with dinner at your hotel.
On the final day, we head to Rissani to visit its historic souk, which is a major trading hub on market days. We then stop in Erfoud to see how fossilized marble is crafted. The journey continues along the Ziz River and through the Ziz Valley, with a stop for lunch in Midelt. We visit the cedar forest to see wild Barbary Macaques before reaching Ifrane, often called the Switzerland of Morocco for its alpine style. Finally, we drop you off at your accommodation or the airport in Fes.
